Leahter P developed an innovative technology that allows to manipulate the macromolecular component of the animal dermis in order to obtain leather products with high sustainable and functional properties. It is already known that macroscopic properties of collagen define the final structure of the dermis; the ability to alter the properties of single collagen fibrils allows us to change the functional characterisitcs of the final structure. Specifically, we are able to manipulate the hierarchical structure of dermis, preserving the typical characteristics, especially in terms of breathability and silky hand.

Leather P functionalization  is not limited to the surface, but single collagen fibres, even in the inner layers are homogenously engineered through the penetration and distribution of macro and nanomolecules into the entire thickness of the animal skin functionalizing the whole threedimensional collagen matrix .Our process can be easily included into conventional supply chain processes without making changes to the existing production line and process schemes. The functionalizations can be carried out on leather in different stages of the manufacturing  process consisting in tanning, retanning and finishing stages
